Batteries are one of the most important components of your car. They provide the power that is needed to start your engine and to keep it running. But, as you know, batteries have a limited lifespan. There are some tips that can help to extend the life span of your car batteries.
1. Test your battery voltage on regular basis: You might be able to avoid a breakdown or battery failure while driving if you test your battery in advance. Using a voltmeter to check the voltage of your battery is the simplest method. Digital voltmeters are the simplest to use if you decide to buy one. Complete the voltage test at least twelve hours after turning off your car for the most precise reading.
2. Avoid leaving your car unused for extended periods of time: The battery won't have enough time to recharge if your car is unused for extended periods of time. Take your car for a 30-minute drive once a week to warm up the engine and circulate the fluids. Your car will operate at its best when it is used frequently.
3. Cleansing of your Battery on regular basis: A car battery's grime, dirt, or moisture can cause leakage across the battery casing, resulting in a short circuit that could flatten your battery. A sponge and a dry cloth work well to remove this surface-level grime. To prevent build up, perform this at least once per month. The corrosion of battery terminals and lead clamps is quite common. The battery's ability to conduct electricity can be hampered by lead clamps and corrosion on the terminals.
4. When your car's engine isn't running, don't use electronic accessories: The battery can be discharged by leaving your headlights, interior lights, or ignition on while using the infotainment system but not starting the engine. This is because when the engine is turned off, your car's alternator shuts down, causing electronic accessories to draw power from the battery instead.
5. Get routine maintenance done on your car battery: It is best to have your car battery professionally tested to reduce the possibility of an unplanned breakdown. Ask the mechanic to check that your battery is functioning properly and in good condition when you take your car in for a service.
